The Adopt-A-Trail program allows community organizations to adopt 1/2-mile portions of the Halfway Creek Trail or the Holland Bluffs Trail, which connects to the Great River State Trail at Midway in the Town of Onalaska (south end, mile marker 0) and runs north 8.5 miles, through Holmen and the Town of Holland ending by Drugan's Golf Course on Hwy 53 North (mile marker 8.5).



 

WHO CAN ADOPT?
Adopting can be done by businesses, individuals, schools, college organizations, church groups, service clubs, teams, corporations, etc. Sponsors will adopt a ½ mile portion of the trail and participate in at least 3 clean up days per year. In order, to adopt you must fill out an application, pay a fee of $300 (cost of signs), and be approved by the Village of Holmen, Town of Holland, and Town of Onalaska. All volunteers must provide all equipment on the clean up days.

After adoption, the sponsoring group will agree to help keep their portion of the trail clean throughout the non-winter seasons.


WHAT IS INVOLVED?
 

  • Complete Application Form and submit $300 fee to Holmen Park & Recreation Dept.
  • Park, Recreation, & Library Committee approves applications at their monthly meeting (first Wednesday of month)
  • If approved, two sponsor signs will be made and installed on the requested portion of the trail by the Village staff.
  • Sponsoring group commits to basic trail maintenance and conducting periodic clean-up days.
    • Picking up trash, fallen branches, etc.
    • Reporting trail damage
  • Minimum 3-year sponsorship
