FIREARMS AND WEAPONS

§ 63-1.  Carrying dangerous weapons.

It shall be unlawful for any person, other than a village marshal or other officer authorized to maintain the peace and to serve process, to carry or wear any pistol, slug shot, knuckles, bowie knife, dirk, or other dangerous weapon, and any person convicted of a violation of the provisions of this section shall be punished by a fine not exceeding $100. In all cases of conviction hereunder, any and all dangerous weapons found on the person of the convicted shall be confiscated and become the property of the village and may be destroyed by order of the court. 

§ 63-2.  Discharge of firearms. 

A.     No person shall fire or discharge any cannon, pistol, revolver, rifle, shot gun or any firearms of any description within the Village of Holmen without first having obtained written permission from the Village President, which permit shall limit the time and fix the place of such shooting and shall be subject to being revoked at any time after the same may have been granted except that this section shall not be construed to prohibit the discharge of firearms by the sheriff or any of his deputies, village marshal or any of his subordinates, or any public officer when required and made necessary in the performance of any duty imposed by law. 

B.      Any person violating any of the provisions of this section shall be subject to a fine of not less than $5 nor more than $25. 

C.     Nothing herein shall prohibit organized groups of adult persons from petitioning the Village Board in writing for said persons to locate, construct, and operate indoor and outdoor pistol ranges, rifle ranges, trap or skeet ranges within said village. Said Village Board shall have full and complete authority to grant or refuse said petition in taking into consideration: location, safety, supervision, and nuisance or disturbance to residents, in granting any permit relative to the operation of any said shooting ranges, and said Village Board may revoke any such permit at any time.
