Branches, Brush,  and Christmas Trees

The Village provides a curbside brush chipping service beginning on the first Monday of every month. If the first Monday falls on a holiday, the service will begin the following day. However, this service is not offered for construction sites, nor is it intended for the disposal of entire trees. This service is offered for tree and yard maintenance only, so disposal of entire trees should be arranged through a tree service contractor. Have your brush and branches (up to 12” diameter), including Christmas trees, stacked cut-side-out at the curb by 7am on that Monday morning, and the Village will chip them up and haul them away. Be sure your branches and trees are free of any metal, wire, rope, tinsel, plastic, stones or other debris that could damage the chipper. Your amount of brush and branches is limited to one pile per property no larger than 4 feet high x 8 feet long. Flocked trees and stumps weighing less than 50 lbs will be picked up as large items on regularly scheduled large item pickup days. (See Large Item Pickup)

Recycling Program

The Village of Holmen contracts with Hilltopper Refuse of Onalaska to collect refuse and recyclables. The Village will continue to collect refuse and recyclables on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday depending on your location. Please refer to the map on the inside cover to locate your collection day. Your regular pickup day may be delayed one day in the event of a holiday.

Remember, recycling is mandatory in the Village of Holmen. If you or someone else you know does not understand the Village's recycling program, please call 526-4336. Recycling items including aluminum cans, tin cans, glass jars and bottles, plastic (#1 and #2), newspaper and inserts, yard waste, used oil, car batteries, tires, and appliances shall not be commingled with other trash. Hilltopper picks up tin and aluminum cans, glass jars and bottles, plastic, and newspapers every week on the same day as your trash pickup (See Garbage Zone Map).

Your regular pickup day may be delayed one day during weeks when a holiday occurs.

Trash containing recyclable items will be left at the site and tagged to note the violation. Violators may also be fined.

Recycling Bins

The Village has provided each residence with a maroon recycling bin to hold steel, tin and aluminum cans, glass jars and bottles, and #1 and #2 plastic jugs and bottles. To have recyclables collected at your home, they must be placed in the maroon bin. If you do not have a Holmen recycling bin, a replacement can be purchased for $7.25 at the Village Clerk's office. You do not need to separate your recyclables, except for newspapers and inserts. Place cans, glass, and plastic loose in the bin and place bundled or bagged newspapers on top of the bin or beside it.

Do not take bins with you when you move. The bins should stay with the property.
