Long range planning survey results
The Village of Holmen has developed a long range master plan that will
take it into the 21st Century. Part of the process of the plan was a community
wide survey. Below is a summary of significant results of the 1997 community
survey.
Resident information
- Average number of residents per household is 2.77
- 62% of residents have lived in Holmen less than 10 years.
- 77% of children that live at home are less than 13 years old.
- The Village current unemployment rate is 4%.
- 30% of wage earners classify themselves as professionals or skilled trades
persons.
- 24 % of wage earners work in Holmen or are retired.
- 81% of households are within or exceed average income range for the size
of their family.
- 31% of respondents are on a fixed income or social security.
- 80 % of the wage earners have post high school education.
- 84 % of respondents own their own home.
Village information
- 90% of respondents say they feel the Village is a good or excellent place
to live.
- Community growth, lack of organized space for young people and the need
for a new industrial park are the top three problems residents feel are the
most important.
- 47 % of respondents would like to see additional growth in the Village.
- Single family, elderly housing and moderate rent rental units top the
desired housing for the Village.
- Mobile home and rooming houses are at the bottom for housing in the
Village.
- 73% of respondents would like to see additional commercial growth in the
Village.
- Restaurants, recreational facilities and repair services top the
commercial growth desired.
- 75% of respondents feel the Village should promote economic development,
while only 31% say the Village should help finance that development.
- It appears that most residents shop in the Village for gas and groceries
but do not shop in the Village for many other items.
Government services and roads
- 62% of respondents feel the roads are in good or excellent condition,
however 44% say they would like to see road improvements.
- Generally respondents feel that Village services are adequate with the
exception of recreational facilities.
- 85% of respondents feel that the bluffs, wetland and woodlands should be
protected.
- Trails and pools dominate the desired recreational facilities for the
Village.
